Bloomsbury Academic Midnight Chicken A1071306123
Bloomsbury Academic Midnight Chicken A1071306123
Bloomsbury presents Midnight Chicken written and read by Ella Risbridger. _________________ Winner of the Guild of Food Writers General Cookbook Award 2020 _________________ 'A manual for living and a declaration of hope' – Nigella Lawson 'Beautiful, life-affirming memoir with recipes ... The most talented British debut writer in a generation' – Sunday Times 'Brave and moving ... as effective as a manual for life as it is as a kitchen companion' – Shamil Thakrar, co-founder of Dishoom _________________ There are lots of ways to start a story, but this one begins with a chicken. Because one night, Ella found herself lying on her kitchen floor, wondering if she would ever get up – and it was the thought of a chicken, of roasting it, and of eating it, that got her to her feet and made her want to be alive. Midnight Chicken is the story of Ella's life in a Tiny Flat, and the food she cooked there. From roast garlic and tomato soup to charred leek lasagne or burntbutter brownies, she shares recipes that are about people, about love, about the things that matter every day. This is a cookbook-of-stories to make you fall in love with the world again. With a new afterword about life after The Tiny Flat. _________________ 'An utter treat' – Dolly Alderton 'Divine. Utterly totally perfect' – Charly Cox 'Generous, honest and uplifting' – Diana Henry 'So thoughtfully and poetically written' – Josie Long 'She cooks like a dream and writes like an angel' – Sarah Phelps 'She has found a way to write not just about food itself but, more importantly, about the darkness for which cooking can be a partial remedy' – Bee Wilson _________________

B&T Tuesdays with Morrie A1003177426
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER The blockbuster book that is one of the top-selling memoirs of all time and is the basis for the Emmy Award-winning film and stage adaptations that have been produced continuously worldwide since 2002 An unforgettable story of friendship, the timeless wisdom of older generations, and healing lessons on loss and grief A wonderful book, a story of the heart told by a writer with soul. Los Angeles Times The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in. Maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher, or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, helped you see the world as a more profound place, gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it. For Mitch Albom, that person was Morrie Schwartz, his college professor from nearly twenty years ago. Maybe, like Mitch, you lost track of this mentor as you made your way, and the insights faded, and the world seemed colder. Wouldn't you like to see that person again, ask the bigger questions that still haunt you, receive wisdom for your busy life today the way you once did when you were younger? Mitch Albom had that second chance. He rediscovered Morrie in the last months of the older man's life. Knowing he was dying, Morrie visited with Mitch in his study every Tuesday, just as they used to back in college. Their rekindled relationship turned into one final "class": lessons in how to live. Tuesdays with Morrie is a magical chronicle of their time together, through which Mitch shares Morrie's lasting gift with the world.

Random House N.Y. On Character A1073336523
AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER From the bestselling author of Team of Teams and My Share of the Task, reflections on character, and who we choose to be.  “Reputation is what men and women think of us; character is what God and angels know of us.”  —Thomas Paine How to measure a life? After a career of service, retired four-star general Stanley McChrystal had much to contemplate. He pondered his successes and failures, his beliefs and aspirations, and asked himself, Who am I, really? And more importantly, who have I become? When I die, how will I be measured? In the end, McChrystal came to a conclusion as simple as it was profound: the reality of who we are cannot be recorded in dates or accomplishments. It is found in our character—the most accurate, and last full measure, of who we choose to be. On Character offers McChrystal’s blueprint for living with purpose and integrity, challenging us to examine not just our deeds but who we become through them. Drawing from a lifetime of experience, he distills profound insights on setting and meeting standards, aligning actions with beliefs, and offers practical advice on overcoming obstacles and pursuing self-improvement. According to McChrystal, character is not a trait inherited at birth, nor does it automatically come from education, position, or experience. Character, instead, comes down to a succession of choices, most mundane, several momentous, that reveal the deep truth of our capacity for virtue. In an era where understanding and upholding our ideals is more crucial than ever, On Character offers an inspiring roadmap for personal growth and integrity—a call to become our best selves, both as individuals and as Americans.

Alpina Non Fiction Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby A1061029547
Alpina Non Fiction Secrets of the Baby Whisperer: How to Calm, Connect, and Communicate with Your Baby A1061029547
When Tracy Hogg's Secrets of the Baby Whisperer was first published, it soared onto bestseller lists across the country. Parents everywhere became "whisperers" to their newborns, amazed that they could actually communicate with their baby within weeks of their child's birth. Tracy gave parents what for some amounted to a miracle: the ability to understand their baby's every coo and cry so that they could tell immediately if the baby was hungry, tired, in real distress, or just in need of a little TLC. Tracy also dispelled the insidious myth that parents must go sleepless for the first year of a baby's life–because a happy baby sleeps through the night. Now you too can benefit from Tracy's more than twenty years' experience. In this groundbreaking book, she shares simple, accessible programs in which you will learn: E.A.S.Y.–how to get baby to eat, play, and sleep on a schedule that will make every member of the household's life easier and happier. S.L.O.W.–how to interpret what your baby is trying to tell you (so you don't try to feed him when he really wants a nap). How to identify which type of baby yours is–Angel, Textbook, Touchy, Spirited, or Grumpy–and then learn the best way to interact with that type. Tracy's Three Day Magic–how to change any and all bad habits (yours and the baby's) in just three days. At the heart of Tracy's simple but profound message: treat the baby as you would like to be treated yourself. Reassuring, down-to-earth, and often flying in the face of conventional wisdom, Secrets of the Baby Whisperer promises parents not only a healthier, happier baby but a more relaxed and happy household as well.

Simon & Schuster Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person A1036921795
2017 Audie Award Finalist for Audiobook of the Year The instant New York Times bestseller from the creator of Grey's Anatomy and Scandal and executive producer of How to Get Away With Murder shares how saying YES changed her life. As fun to read as Rhimes's TV series are to watch (Los Angeles Times). She's the creator and producer of some of the most groundbreaking and audacious shows on television today. Her iconic characters live boldly and speak their minds. So who would suspect that Shonda Rhimes is an introvert? That she hired a publicist so she could avoid public appearances? That she suffered panic attacks before media interviews? With three children at home and three hit television shows, it was easy for Shonda to say she was simply too busy. But in truth, she was also afraid. And then, over Thanksgiving dinner, her sister muttered something that was both a wake up and a call to arms: You never say yes to anything. Shonda knew she had to embrace the challenge: for one year, she would say YES to everything that scared her. This poignant, intimate, and hilarious memoir explores Shonda's life before her Year of Yes?from her nerdy, book-loving childhood to her devotion to creating television characters who reflected the world she saw around her. The book chronicles her life after her Year of Yes had begun?when Shonda forced herself out of the house and onto the stage; when she learned to explore, empower, applaud, and love her truest self. Yes. ?Honest, raw, and revelatory? (The Washington Post), this wildly candid and compulsively readable book reveals how the mega talented Shonda Rhimes finally achieved badassery worthy of a Shondaland character. Best of all, she ?can help motivate even the most determined homebody to get out and try something new? (Chicago Tribune).

He hosts a traveling food show, works with his best friend, and samples the best the world has to offer. There’s only one problem: his love life. THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER The Nazis spared their lives because they were twins. In the summer of 1944, Eva Mozes Kor and her family arrived at Auschwitz. Within thirty minutes, they were separated. Her parents and two older sisters were taken to the gas chambers, while Eva and her twin, Miriam, were herded into the care of the man who became known as the Angel of Death: Dr. Josef Mengele. They were 10 years old. While twins at Auschwitz were granted the 'privileges' of keeping their own clothes and hair, they were also subjected to Mengele's sadistic medical experiments. They were forced to fight daily for their own survival and many died as a result of the experiments, or from the disease and hunger rife in the concentration camp. In a narrative told simply, with emotion and astonishing restraint, The Twins of Auschwitz shares the inspirational story of a child's endurance and survival in the face of truly extraordinary evil. Also included is an epilogue on Eva's incredible recovery and her remarkable decision to publicly forgive the Nazis. Through her museum and her lectures, she dedicated her life to giving testimony on the Holocaust, providing a message of hope for people who have suffered, and worked toward goals of forgiveness, peace, and the elimination of hatred and prejudice in the world. Sunday Times bestseller in August 2020.

Simon & Schuster Hola Papi A1059414104
LGBTQ advice columnist John Paul Brammer writes a "wise and charming" (David Sedaris) memoir-in-essays chronicling his journey from a queer, mixed-race kid in America's heartland to becoming the "Chicano Carrie Bradshaw" of his generation. "A master class of tone and tenderness." —The New York Times Book Review (Editors' Choice) "Should be required reading." —Los Angeles Times The first time someone called John Paul (JP) Brammer "Papi" was on the gay hookup app Grindr. At first, it was flattering; JP took this as white-guy speak for "hey, handsome." But then it happened again and again…and again, leaving JP wondering: Who the hell is Papi? Soon, this racialized moniker became the inspiration for his now wildly popular advice column "¡Hola Papi!," launching his career as the Cheryl Strayed for young queer people everywhere—and some straight people too. JP had his doubts at first—what advice could he really offer while he himself stumbled through his early twenties? Sometimes the best advice comes from looking within, which is what JP does in his column and book—and readers have flocked to him for honest, heartfelt wisdom, and more than a few laughs. In this hilarious, tenderhearted book, JP shares his story of growing up biracial and in the closet in America's heartland, while attempting to answer some of life's most challenging questions: How do I let go of the past? How do I become the person I want to be? Is there such a thing as being too gay? Should I hook up with my grade school bully now that he's out of the closet? Questions we've all asked ourselves, surely. ¡Hola Papi! is "a warm, witty compendium of hard-won life lessons," (Harper's Bazaar) for anyone—gay, straight, and everything in between—who has ever taken stock of their unique place in the world.

Hay House The Power of Caring A1079488722
LOS ANGELES TIMES BESTSELLER * USA TODAY BESTSELLER A radical understanding of caring through the lens of consciousness, from a renowned neuroscientist, Vedic scholar, and New York Times best-selling author Who cares? It's a phrase often said with a shrug-a signal of indifference, fatigue, or even quiet frustration. But it may also be one of the most important questions we can ask. What if it's the starting point of a better life? In The Power of Caring, renowned Vedic scholar and neuroscientist Dr. Tony Nader explores the nature of caring itself-what shapes it, why it so often leads to overwhelm or withdrawal, and how it can become a source of clarity rather than confusion. Drawing on neuroscience, psychology, philosophy, and decades of experience with Transcendental Meditation, Dr. Nader reveals a deeper perspective: caring is not just a personal act-it reflects a fundamental connection we share with others and with life itself. When understood this way, caring becomes not a burden, but a powerful source of purpose, resilience, and fulfillment. Moving from the personal to the planetary, this book explores essential questions: · What is the true nature of caring, and why should we care at all? · How can we care for both ourselves and others without burning out? · When does caring turn into control, and how do we set wise boundaries? · How does care expand beyond the personal, shaping ethics, culture, and the future? Through engaging reflections, relatable examples, and practical "reset" tools, readers will learn how to: · Care without becoming overwhelmed · Set boundaries without losing compassion · Align their actions with what truly matters · Transform everyday choices into meaningful contributions Whether you're feeling stretched thin, searching for purpose, or simply asking yourself what really matters, this book offers a clear and empowering insight: Caring-done consciously-is not just something we give. It's something that shapes how we live.

Simon & Schuster N.Y. Getting Off A1050936518
Simon & Schuster N.Y. Getting Off A1050936518
“Erica Garza has written a riveting, can’t-look-away memoir of a life lived hardcore…In an era when predatory male sexual behavior has finally become a topic of urgent national discourse…Getting Off makes for a wild, timely read” (Elle) . A fixation on porn and orgasm, strings of failed relationships and serial hook-ups with strangers, inevitable blackouts to blunt the shame—these are not things we often hear women share publicly, and not with the candor, eloquence, and introspection Erica Garza brings to Getting Off. What sets this courageous and riveting account apart from your typical misery memoir is the absence of any precipitating trauma beyond the garden variety of hurt we’ve all had to endure in simply becoming a person—reckoning with family, learning to be social, integrating what it means to be sexual. Whatever tenor of violence or abuse Erica’s life took on through her behavior was of her own making, fueled by fear, guilt, self-loathing, self-pity, loneliness, and the hopelessness those feelings brought on as she runs from one side of the world to the other in an effort to break her habits—from East Los Angeles to Hawaii and Southeast Asia, through the brothels of Bangkok and the yoga studios of Bali to disappointing stabs at therapy and twelve-steps back home. In these remarkable pages, Garza draws an evocative, studied portrait of the anxiety that fuels her obsessions, as well as the exhilaration and hope she begins to feel when she suspects she might be free of them. Getting Off offers a brave and necessary voice to our evolving conversations about addiction and the impact that internet culture has had on us all—“a profoundly genuine, gripping story that any reader can appreciate” (Vice). “In reading Garza’s insight into her own experiences, we better understand ourselves” (The New York Times Book Review).

But unlike other couples, these two share an unusual past. In rural Fuzhou, before they emigrated, they frequented the Workers' Cinema, where gay men cruised for love. While classic war films played, Old Second and his fellow countrymen found intimacy in the privacy of the Workers' Cinema's screening rooms. Elsewhere, in the box office, Bao Mei sold tickets to closeted men - guarding their privacy and finding her own happiness with the projectionist. But when their secrets are unveiled, they set in motion a series of haunting events that propel Old Second and Bao Mei towards an uncertain future in America. Spanning three timelines - post-socialist China, 1980s Chinatown, and contemporary New York - Cinema Love is a tender epic about men and women who find themselves in forbidden and frustrated relationships as they grapple with the past and their unspoken desires. Soon spotted as a fearless and skilful driver, Mairi was recruited to join Dr Hector Munro's Flying Ambulance Corps, and she and Elsie spent most of the war on the Western Front retrieving wounded soldiers from the battlefields and patching them up, saving over 1,000 lives.
