INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER A Today Show Pick “I’ve never read a story quite like this deeply moving, complex novel." —Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author Unforgettable and utterly romantic, The Days I Loved You Most is an emotional, life-affirming novel that asks, What if you could write the final chapter of your own love story? In the summer of 1941, on the New England shores where they were raised, Evelyn and Joseph fell in love. Now, more than sixty years later, with a lifetime between them, they have gathered their three grown children to share the staggering news: she has received a heartbreaking diagnosis, and he can't live without her. So in one year's time they will end their love story on their own terms. Over the next year, the couple retraces their past—all the joys and regrets that brought them to this moment. They embark on a journey to live out their greatest dreams and to connect with each of their children. But as their final days draw closer, they must confront the stark reality of what's to come, and make peace with the legacy they will leave behind for their family. Spanning the twentieth century from World War II to 9/11 and beyond, The Days I Loved You Most is a timeless tale of unwavering devotion -- a moving tribute to the enduring power of love and a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is always hope and beauty to be found.

Simon and Schuster UK No Place Like Home (CD) A1002442060
Liza Barclay, aged 10, shot her mother while trying to protect her from her violent stepfather, ex-FBI agent Charley Foster. Despite her stepfather's claim that it was a deliberate act, the Juvenile Court ruled the death an accident. Many people, however, agreed with Foster and tabloids compared Liza to the infamous murderess, Lizzie Borden, pointing even to the similarity in name. Growing up with adoptive parents who tried to erase every trace of her past, her name is changed to Celia. Always, though, the fear hung over her and the family - that someday, her vengeful stepfather would reappear to harm her. Aged 25, a successful interior designer, she marries a childless sixty-year old widower and they have a son. Before their marriage, she had confided her earlier life to her husband. Two years on, on his deathbed, he tells her that he would want her to re-marry, but makes her swear never to reveal her past to anyone, so that their son would not carry the burden of this family tragedy – a promise that plunges her into a new cycle of violence. Three years later, happily re-married, Celia is shocked when her second husband presents her with a gift -- the house where she killed her mother. When the real estate agent who has made the sale recognises her and, soon after, is murdered, Celia is accused of the crime. Once again, she is home -- the place where she is stamped as a murderess.

Penguin Books Ltd Chernobyl Roulette A1072631927
'A necessary book - and I can think of no writer better qualified to write it' Cal Flyn What if Chernobyl was just the beginning? The acclaimed winner of the Baillie Gifford Prize returns to Chernobyl to tell the gripping story of thirty-five days of war On 24 February 2022, the first day of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, armoured vehicles approached the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in northern Ukraine. It was the most direct way for them to reach the capital - and an extraordinarily reckless plan after the disaster that had taken place there three decades earlier. Russian occupation of the plant had begun. It would last thirty-five days. Closely reported and narrated from multiple perspectives, this is the story of the Ukrainians who were held hostage and worked shifts for weeks instead of days to spare the world a new nuclear accident. We meet Valentyn Heiko, the foreman who had also been there for the clean-up of the Chernobyl accident in 1986 and turned sixty during the occupation; plant workers who found a way to celebrate International Women's Day despite all odds; Russian officers who had no knowledge of nuclear reactors; and four stalkers who were caught in the middle and stood in for the overworked cook. Gripping and unforgettable, Chernobyl Roulette sounds the alarm about the dangers of nuclear sites in an unprecedented time, when plant workers are left to fight on their own while the world holds its breath. In a book that reads like a thriller, Serhii Plokhy tells a remarkable story about human nature, uncertainty and courage.

Bloomsbury Absolution A1071301017
Bloomsbury presents Absolution by Alice McDermott, read by Jesse Vilinsky and Rachel Kenney. * THE TOP 10 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * 'One of the finest contemporary novels I've read ... A moral masterpiece' ANN PATCHETT 'Her writing has a luminous kind of clarity, a grace and scope that fills me with wonder' RACHEL JOYCE 'Damning and dazzling ... The story of a Vietnam we never got in history class' OPRAH DAILY ————————- You have no idea what it was like. For us. The women, I mean. The wives. 1963. Saigon. Tricia is a shy newlywed, married to a rising attorney working for US Navy intelligence. Charlene is a practiced corporate spouse and mother of three, a beauty and a bully. The two women form a wary alliance as they struggle to balance the pressure to be respectable wives for their ambitious husbands, with their own dubious impulses to "do good" for the people of Vietnam. Sixty years later, Charlene's daughter, spurred by an encounter with an aging Vietnam veteran, reaches out to Tricia. Together, they look back at their time in Saigon, discovering how their lives as women on the periphery — of politics, of history, of war, of their husbands' convictions — have been shaped and burdened by the unintended consequences of America's tragic interference in Southeast Asia. Exploring the disaster of the Vietnam War through the lives built by American wives in 1960s Saigon, this is a virtuosic novel about folly and grace, obligation, sacrifice and the quest for absolution in a broken world.

ADMX Publishing Seven Years, Not Forty A1081129346
ADMX Publishing Seven Years, Not Forty A1081129346
Most people inherit a financial script they never chose: go to school, get a job, save steadily, and retire at sixty-five. Ellis Marwood argues that this script is not a timeless truth but a historically specific relic — one that was better suited to an era of pensions, shorter lifespans, and limited alternatives. Today, it no longer serves the majority of people well enough to be accepted without question.Seven Years, Not Forty is a rigorous, practical guide to building genuine financial freedom on a compressed timeline. Drawing on seventeen years of reporting on the people and companies that fall outside the usual norm, Marwood distills the mechanics behind accelerated wealth creation into a coherent and honest framework — one grounded in ownership, leverage, systems, and solving problems at scale. The book begins by dismantling three common financial misconceptions: that high income equals wealth, that saving and investing are sufficient paths to freedom, and that retirement at sixty-five is the natural endpoint of a working life. Using research from Federal Reserve data, Thomas Piketty's capital theory, the Harvard Study of Adult Development, and behavioral economics, Marwood shows why the standard path often fails to deliver what it promises — and what the alternative looks like in practice. At the core of the book is a simple but powerful distinction between three financial roads: labor, saving and investing, and ownership. Most people spend their entire careers on the first two. The fastest wealth builders move deliberately toward the third — acquiring businesses, real estate, intellectual property, and equity that produce income independent of their personal labor.Marwood then provides the tools to make that move. Readers learn how to escape the salary trap without reckless quitting, how to shift from a consumer to a producer mindset, how to build businesses that run without the owner in the room, and how to deploy the five levers — labor, capital, code, media, and equity — to multiply output far beyond what personal effort alone can achieve. The book also addresses the psychological and structural threats to wealth preservation, and makes a compelling case that true richness must be lived during the building years, not deferred to an uncertain future.Through case studies of Sara Blakely, Jan Koum, and Madame C.J. Walker, Marwood shows that compressed wealth creation is not reserved for tech prodigies or the already-privileged. It follows a recognizable pattern: identify a widespread problem, test cheaply, retain ownership, build transferable systems, and use leverage to scale beyond personal labor.Seven Years, Not Forty does not promise shortcuts or secret formulas. It offers something more valuable: a clear map, drawn from thousands of real stories, of how ordinary people have built extraordinary financial freedom — and what any reader willing to question the inherited script can begin doing today.

University Presses God's Mountain A1003065506
University Presses God's Mountain A1003065506
This provocative study of Jerusalem's Temple Mount unravels popular scholarly paradigms about the origins of this contested sacred site and its significance in Jewish and Christian traditions. In God's Mountain, Yaron Z. Eliav reconstructs the early story of the Temple Mount, exploring the way the site was developed as a physical entity, religious concept, and cultural image. He traces the Temple Mount's origins and investigates its history, explicating the factors that shaped it both physically and conceptually. Eliav refutes the popular tradition that situates the Temple Mount as a unique sacred space from the earliest days of the history of Israel and the Jewish people-a sequential development model that begins in the tenth century BCE with Solomon's construction of the First Temple. Instead, he asserts that the Temple Mount emerged as a sacred space in Jewish and early Christian consciousness hundreds of years later, toward the close of the Second Temple era in the first century CE. Eliav pinpoints three defining moments in the Temple Mount's physical history: King Herod's dramatic enlargement of the mountain at the end of the first century BCE, the temple's destruction by the Roman emperor Titus in 70 CE, and Hadrian's actions in Jerusalem sixty years later. This new chronology provides the framework for a fresh consideration of the literary and archeological evidence, as well as new understandings of the religious and social dynamics that shaped the image of the Temple Mount as a sacred space for Jews and Christians.

From one of the world's bestselling authors, Winter Garden is a moving, haunting and compelling novel illuminating the intricacy of mother-daughter bonds and the enduring links between past and present. 'One of the greatest storytellers of our time' - Delia Owens , author of Where the Crawdads Sing 'Every choice changed the road you were on and it was too easy to end up going in the wrong direction' Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. Turnaround Kinfolk Volume 60 A1077242524
In Issue Sixty, Kinfolk looks to the past. History functions as a cultural and political undercurrent, and we consider how it informs the stories nations tell about themselves, the identities individuals construct and the structures of power that societies accept. Across the issue, we hear from leading voices who are reinterpreting the past and shaping how the present is understood. In London, we spend a morning with Nicholas Cullinan, director of the British Museum, who reflects on the challenge of stewarding the institution in an era increasingly defined by questions of restitution and accountability. In New York, Nikole Hannah-Jones—the Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist behind the 1619 Project—explains why revisiting foundational national narratives remains urgent today, while in Paris, writer Daphnée Denis examines the politics of remembering figures precisely because they were forgotten. Elsewhere, we meet David Chipperfield, the seminal architect known for his sensitive work with historic buildings. We also visit a series of homes, each with a history of its own: in Helsinki, the atelier apartment of artist Tove Jansson; in Los Angeles, the glamorous midcentury properties restored by design studio Ome Dezin, and Flamingo Estate, Richard Christiansen’s botanical pleasureland. Since 2011, Kinfolk has set the standard for independent publishing in art, design, aesthetics, architecture, homes and interiors. Our quarterly lifestyle magazine is sold in over 100 countries, published in three languages and makes the perfect coffee table magazine or gift for a creative. Featuring inspiring photography, fashion and style, as well as examinations of slow living, Kinfolk is an art and design publication that seeks to promote quality of life and connect a community of creative thinkers.

Simon & Schuster N.Y. Forward from Here A1006626194
Simon & Schuster N.Y. Forward from Here A1006626194
In her funny and wistful new book, Reeve Lindbergh contemplates entering a new stage in life, turning sixty, the period her mother, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, once described as "the youth of old age. " It is a time of life, she writes, that produces some unexpected surprises. Age brings loss, but also love; disaster, but also delight. The second-graders Reeve taught many years ago are now middle-aged; her own children grow, marry, have children themselves. "Time flies," she observes, "but if I am willing to fly with it, then I can be airborne, too." A milestone birthday is also an opportunity to take stock of oneself, although such self-reflection may lead to nothing more than the realization, as Reeve puts it, "that I just seem to continue being me, the same person I was at twelve and at fifty." At sixty, as she observes, "all I really can do with the rest of my life is to...feel all of it, every bit of it, as much as I can for as long as I can." Age is only one of many subjects that Reeve writes about with perception and insight. In northern Vermont, nature is an integral part of daily life, especially on a farm. Whether it is the arrival and departure of certain birds in spring and fall, wandering turtles, or the springtime ritual of lambing, the natural world is a constant revelation. With a wry sense of humor, Reeve contemplates the infirmities of the aging body, as well as the many new drugs that treat these maladies. Briefly considering the risks of drug dependency, she writes that "the least we [the "Sixties Generation"] can do for ourselves is live up to our mythology, and take lots of drugs." Legal drugs, that is -- although what sustains us as we grow older is not drugs but an appreciation for life, augmented by compassion, a sense of humor, and common sense. And of course there is family -- especially with the Lindberghs. Reeve writes about discovering, thirty years after her father's death and two and a half years after her mother's, that her father had three secret families in Europe. She travels to meet them, learning to expand her self-understanding: "daughter of," "mother of," "sister of" -- sister of many more siblings than she'd known, in a family more complicated than even she had imagined. Forward from Here is a brave book, a reflective book, a funny book -- a book that will charm and fascinate anyone on the journey from middle age to the uncertain future that lies ahead.

E-Kitap Projesi & Cheapest Books Heart of Darkness A1076179610
Heart of Darkness (1899) is a short novel by Joseph Conrad, written as a frame narrative, about Charles Marlow's life as an ivory transporter down the Congo River in Central Africa. The river is "a mighty big river, that you could see on the map, resembling an immense snake uncoiled, with its head in the sea, its body at rest curving afar over a vast country, and its tail lost in the depths of the land." In the course of his travel in central Africa, Marlow becomes obsessed with Mr. Kurtz. The story is a complex exploration of the attitudes people hold on what constitutes a barbarian versus a civilized society and the attitudes on colonialism and racism that were part and parcel of European imperialism. Originally published as a three-part serial story, in Blackwood's Magazine, the novella Heart of Darkness has been variously published and translated into many languages. In 1998, the Modern Library ranked Heart of Darkness as the sixty-seventh of the hundred best novels in English of the twentieth century. Short Summary Aboard the Nellie, anchored in the River Thames near Gravesend, England, Charles Marlow tells his fellow sailors about the events that led to his appointment as captain of a river-steamboat for an ivory trading company. He describes his passage on ships to the wilderness to the Company's station, which strikes Marlow as a scene of devastation: disorganized, machinery parts here and there, periodic demolition explosions, weakened native black men who have been demoralized, in chains, literally being worked to death, and strolling behind them a white Company man in a uniform carrying a rifle. At this station Marlow meets the Company's chief accountant who tells him of a Mr. Kurtz, and explains that Kurtz is a first-class agent.

Since then, PJ spends both his money and his time at the bar, and he probably doesn't have much time left - he's had three heart attacks already. But when PJ reads the obituary of his old romantic rival, he realizes his high school sweetheart, Michelle Cobb, is finally single again. University Press Of Mississippi The Preventorium A1067059775
University Press Of Mississippi The Preventorium A1067059775
Opened on February 17, 1929, the Mississippi State Preventorium operated continuously until 1976. The Mississippi Preventorium, like similar hospitals throughout the country, was an institution for sickly, anemic, and underweight children. It was established on the grounds of the Mississippi State Tuberculosis Sanitorium in the early years of the twentieth century when tuberculosis was a dreaded disease worldwide. The TB Sanitorium hospital housed those with tuberculosis, offering refuge for patients of all ages afflicted with the pernicious and contagious disease. Although located on the same medical campus, the preventorium was a separate medical institution for children; no children with TB were admitted in the sixty-year run of the hospital. The name preventorium meant a place of preventing disease as there was a fear of sickly children contracting TB. The Mississippi Preventorium was one of the last, if not the very last, of these special hospitals for children. Now closed, the preventorium housed over three thousand children, including author Susan Annah Currie. In this intimate memoir, Currie details her fifteen-month stay at the preventorium. From her arrival in May 1959 at six years old, Currie vividly explores the unique and isolating world that she and children across the country experienced. Her exacting routine, dictated by the nurses and doctors who now acted as her parents, erased the distinction between patients and created both a sense of community among the children and a deep sense of loneliness. From walking silently single file through the cold, narrow halls of the hospital to nurses recording every detail of their bathroom habits to extremely limited visitation from family, Currie's time at the preventorium changed her and those around her, leaving an indelible mark even after their return home. While many of the records from the preventorium have been lost, Currie's memoir opens to readers a lost history largely forgotten. Told in evocative prose, The Preventorium explores Currie's personal trials, both in the hospital and in the echoes of her experiences into adulthood.

HarperChristian Resources The 30 Life Principles Bible Study Softcover (Enlarged) A1039321091
Out of the hundreds of life principles in the Bible, wouldn't you like to know which ones Dr. Charles Stanley thinks are the most vital for living a victorious Christian life? We all know that the Bible is our greatest resource for insight, wisdom, hope, and guidance. In it, God has given us literally hundreds of life principles to help us become everything He designed us to be. But, how do we know which principle to apply to today's problems? And, once we have identified which principle we need, how do we make it a part of our life? During his sixty years of ministry, Dr. Charles Stanley has faithfully highlighted 30 Life Principles that have guided his life and helped him to grow in his knowledge, service, and love of God. Dr. Stanley has taught them so others can find God's wisdom and grow into mature followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Here are just a few of the 30 Life Principles Dr. Stanley teaches: God does not require you to understand His will, just obey it You reap what you sow, more than you sow, and later than you sow Dark moments last as long as necessary for God to accomplish His purpose Brokenness is God's requirement for maximum usefulness Whatever you acquire outside of God's will eventually turns to ashes The 30 Life Principles Bible Study is a 90-day study based on the tenets of the Christian faith that have been tried and proven throughout history, and it gives you a plan to put these principles into action. Each lesson includes: Life's Questions: Each lesson opens with an insight into the principle and a brief overview of what you will be studying. Daily Bible Study: Each lesson includes three days' worth of Bible study for you to complete during the week, with space provided to record your answers to the study questions. Living the Principle: In addition to studying each principle in God's Word, it is also important to put what you have learned into action. This section contains ideas for further reflection on the principle, how to ask God to make it more a part of your daily walk with Him, how to share what you have discovered about it with others, and other ways to put the principle into practice. Life Lessons to Remember: Each lesson includes a summary of three key items to remember for the Life Principle you have studied. Principle in Action: The names of people in the Bible who put the principle into action have been listed in the margin of each lesson. Use the Scripture references provided to learn more about their lives and the ways in which they followed--or failed to follow--God's instruction. Scripture Quotations: Additional Scripture quotations, key concepts, and related quotes have been provided in the margins to give you further insight into each principle, cement the key ideas in your mind, and help you follow along.

Ebury Publishing Tools of Titans A1041047174
#1 New York Times Bestseller The latest groundbreaking tome from Tim Ferriss, the best-selling author of The 4-Hour Workweek . From the author: "For the last two years, I've interviewed nearly two hundred world-class performers for my podcast,The Tim Ferriss Show. The guests range from super celebs (Jamie Foxx, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc.) and athletes (icons of powerlifting, gymnastics, surfing, etc.) to legendary Special Operations commanders and black-market biochemists. For most of my guests, it's the first time they've agreed to a two-to-three-hour interview, and the show is on the cusp of passing 100 million downloads. "This book contains the distilled tools, tactics, and 'inside baseball' you won't find anywhere else. It also includes new tips from past guests, and life lessons from new 'guests' you haven't met. "What makes the show different is a relentless focus on actionable details. This is reflected in the questions. For example: What do these people do in the first sixty minutes of each morning? What do their workout routines look like, and why? What books have they gifted most to other people? What are the biggest wastes of time for novices in their field? What supplements do they take on a daily basis? "I don't view myself as an interviewer. I view myself as an experimenter. If I can't test something and replicate results in the messy reality of everyday life, I'm not interested. "Everything within these pages has been vetted, explored, and applied to my own life in some fashion. I've used dozens of the tactics and philosophies in high-stakes negotiations, high-risk environments, or large business dealings. The lessons have made me millions of dollars and saved me years of wasted effort and frustration. "I created this book, my ultimate notebook of high-leverage tools, for myself. It's changed my life, and I hope the same for you."

Frölich und Kaufmann Anjar 1939-2019, m. DVD-ROM 15001200
The small city of Anjar lies about sixty kilometers east of Beirut, in Lebanon. Its history borders on the miraculous. In 1939 a group of Armenians from the area Musa Dagh, who had survived the massacre and persecution perpetrated by the Young Turks, found each other. With support from the French colonial government, they managed to buy the land. Not only did the city planning that ensued foresee giving each family some land and a house, they also built three confessional schools in Anjar-apostolic, catholic, protestant. In celebration of the city's eightieth anniversary, the architects Vartivar Jaklian and Hossep Baboyan discuss this utopia, which is devoted to social and individual life, in this illustrated volume containing historical sketches and current photographs, as well as companion texts. The film accompanying the book also features interviews with today's residents of Anjar. VARTIVAR JAKLIAN (*1976, Aleppo) und HOSSEP BABOYAN (*1976, Beirut) both have Armenian roots and come from Lebanon. They studied art and architecture in Beirut (Institut des Beaux-Arts) and in Venice (IUAV Università). They commute back and forth between these two metropolises. Atria Books As a Woman A1061780306
Atria Books As a Woman A1061780306
This moving and unforgettable memoir of a transgender pastor's transition from male to female is an "audacious, gripping, and profoundly real journey that speaks to the mind, heart, and soul" (Joshua J. Dickson, director of Faith Based Initiatives, Biden Campaign)?perfect for fans of Redefining Realness and There Is Room for You. As a father of three, married to a wonderful woman, and holding several prominent jobs within the Christian community, Dr. Paula Stone Williams made the life-changing decision to physically transition from male to female at the age of sixty. Almost instantly, her power and influence in the evangelical world disappeared and her family had to grapple with intense feelings of loss and confusion. Feeling utterly alone after being expelled from the evangelical churches she had once spearheaded, Paula struggled to create a new safe space for herself where she could reconcile her faith, her identity, and her desire to be a leader. Much to her surprise, the key to her new career as a woman came with a deeper awareness of the inequities she had overlooked before her transition. Where her opinions were once celebrated and amplified, now she found herself sidelined and ignored. New questions emerged. Why are women's opinions devalued in favor of men's? Why does love and intimacy feel so different? And, was it possible to find a new spirituality in her own image? In As a Woman, Paula's "critical questions about gender, personhood, and place are relevant to anyone. Her writing insightfully reveals aspects of our gender socialization and culture that often go unexamined, but that need to be talked about, challenged, and changed" (Soraya Chemaly, author of Rage Becomes Her) in order to fully understand what it means to be male, female, and simply, human.
