This study analyzes the discourse of persuasion in Prophet Muhammad's da'wah letters using a Pragma-Rhetorical analysis approach. It attempts to fill in the gap between the old and the new, the traditional and the modern by developing a blended methodology that marries the ancient rhetoric to the contemporary pragmatics and comes out with Pragma-Rhetorical approach of analysis. One of the aims of this study is to display how Pragma-Rhetorical analysis can reveal some strategies used by the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) to persuade Kings, rulers, and chiefs of tribes to change their beliefs and convert to Islam through very brief lines. The study tries to show the influence of employing certain contextual and textual devices on shaping the thought and perception and how these devices are used by Prophet Muhammad to persuade the receivers of his da'wah letters and dominate their hearts and minds in a way which makes them change the religion of their fathers and ancestors. This book discusses the basics of an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) System and the several radio impairments effects to its Bit Error Rate (BER) performance. The effects of different Cyclic Prefixes, Pilot channels and Inter-leaver on OFDM system are also observed. Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) which is one of the major drawbacks of OFDM system is also discussed here along with the discussion of different PAPR reduction techniques. Finally, a new technique called "Double Companding" by means of multiple companding has been proposed to reduce the PAPR. The simulation results show that it has better performance in terms of PAPR reduction than the conventional companding scheme.

This study analyzes the transformation of Kenya's public universities through marketization and privatization by focusing on one university in transition. It identifies the strategies used to achieve marketization and privatization, and the attendant anxiety generated. Both external and internal factors catalyzed the transformation. Marketization strategies included the corporatization of university management through the de-politicization of the university chancellorship, competitive recruitment of the vice-chancellor, administrative reconfigurations, registration of unions and revitalization of student leadership. These developments have generated role conflicts, insider recruitment, and administrative misalignment, loss of faculty power in governance, collective bargaining failure and disruption of learning. Privatization was attained through the commercialization of learning, reflected in the admission of privately sponsored students and the privatization of students accommodation and boarding services. Consequently, conflict over revenue sharing, excessive workload, threat to academic quality and students engaging in risky behavior as a coping strategy were the outcomes.

This book explores musical and personal experiences of three Sudanese women performers and analyzes textual meanings of a particular type of women s songs in Sudan called aghani al-banaat. Because there are many discourses about womanhood , culture, and gender in Sudan, aghani al-banaat could stand as another narrative for negotiating gender/power relations and identity formation by the Sudanese women. Despite being labeled as loose and bad singing, aghani al-baanat provided a discursive space through which the Sudanese women voiced their alternative narratives of social and gender relations. It offered both a framework of negotiating the existing relations as well as a dream of improvement.The book concludes that Sudanese women, especially the pioneering performers of ex-slave descendent origin, created their own culture and popular literature in which they contextualize the past, the present, and the future of their varied realities and fantasies.

This book investigates the interrelationship between educational reforms and pedagogical and technological innovations, as well as the implications of this relationship for the quality of human capital. By analyzing recent educational reforms in Russia and the US, the authors shed new light on how these reforms may help or hinder innovations, such as the introduction of computer technologies into classrooms, new methods of teacher evaluation, constructivist teaching methods, and governance in public schools. Taking labor economics as a useful lens for conceptualizing the diffusion of innovation, in the first part of the book the authors analyze book how certain power arrangements can block educational innovations in schools. In the second part they examine recent educational reforms in the US and Russia. The final part presents a vision of the next generation of educational reforms, which may enable innovation diffusion, rather than hamper it.

For more than three decades, gender equality in education remains significant theoretical and policy debate in the discourse of social justice. Although a number of social power relations shape the schooling experiences of girls, patriarchic lens has remained the dominant tool of analysis for social and institutional arrangements. This book analyzes how the intersection of gender with social-class, spatial location and sexuality shape the experiences of girls admitted in higher education through affirmative action in Ethiopia. This is accomplished by applying the concept of intersectionality as analytical tool. Through a critical analysis of the social and institutional arrangements, the book uncovers how the misrecognition of multiple and intersectional experiences produces chains of discriminations for girls who are at the junction point of the interactions. Furthermore, by highlighting the contextual weaknesses of affirmative action, the book suggests an alternative third space - the notion of complementing affirmative and transformative strategies.
