Die Kriminalliteratur als weltweit populärstes Genre ist in den letzten Jahrzehnten zunehmend zum Gegenstand literatur- und kulturwissenschaftlicher Untersuchungen geworden. Trotz einer Fülle von Studien wurde Fragen nach spezifischen Erzählverfahren auf Basis aktueller narratologischer Theoriebildung bislang jedoch kaum Beachtung geschenkt. Ausgehend von der Beobachtung, dass Multiperspektivität seit den 1990er Jahren zu den häufigsten Erzähltechniken im Kriminalroman gehört, besteht das zentrale Anliegen dieser Arbeit darin, den zeitgenössischen britischen und amerikanischen Kriminalroman erstmals in Bezug auf seine mehrperspektivischen Darstellungsverfahren zu untersuchen. Dabei wird das Konzept mit fünf weiteren einschlägigen theoretischen Modellen verknüpft. Diese für das Krimi-Genre relevanten Kategorien sind Spannungserzeugung, die literarische possible worlds theory, narrative Autorität sowie unzuverlässiges Erzählen und unreliable focalization. Der Arbeit liegt ein breitgefächertes Spektrum von zwanzig Primärwerken der letzten dreißig Jahre aus unterschiedlichen Subgenres zugrunde, zu denen etwa der forensische, historische und feministische Kriminalroman, das police procedural, der klassische Rätselkrimi und die serial killer novel gehören (u.a. mit Werken von Patricia Cornwell, Sue Grafton, Iain Pears, Minette Walters, Peter James, Ann Cleeves, Val McDermid und Kate Atkinson). So möchte die Studie zu einer wieder verstärkten Wahrnehmung des Themas Multiperspektivität innerhalb der Literaturwissenschaft anregen, und gleichzeitig einen Beitrag dazu leisten, zu einem neuen und vielseitigeren Verständnis des englischsprachigen Gegenwartskrimis zu gelangen.
