The last stage of many manufacturing processes used in polymer processing industry are primary forming processes such as extrusion or injection molding. If melts of semicrystalline plastics are subjected to such processes, temperature control opens up the possibility of influencing solid state properties. This concerns those that depend on crystallinity, as it is possible to enhance crystallization by slow cooling or to suppress it by quenching. However, during the forming process the melt rarely rests, so that solidification processes in flows occur. Those complex processes can only be examined in detail by numerical simulation. The present work contributes to this by developing a novel modeling approach for isotactic Polypropylene, detailed presentation and solution of problems in modeling and numerics, as well as exemplary studies for the calculation of a profile extrusion and injection molding process. Detailed calorimetric and rheometric investigations of the solidification behavior and a consideration of molecular processes during crystallization serve as a fundament for modeling. The crystallization model is based on the derivation of the crystallization progress from data of a dynamic scanning calorimetry over a large range of cooling rates. It enables the consideration of suppression of crystallization and a local determination of the crystallinity. The flow behavior of the melt is described by a thermorheological, generalized Maxwell model with the exponential expansion of Phan-Thien and Tanner. Solidified regions are modeled using an adequately parameterized Newtonian law. The numerical realization is done by implementing the modeling approaches in the open source CFD library OpenFOAM. To ensure reliability of the solver, the log-conformation reformulation, both side diffusion stabilization and block-coupled pressure-velocity coupling are used. Detailed studies for elementary static and dynamic problems verify the method and investigate the interaction of all modeling approaches. Parameter studies for realistic profile extrusion and injection molding configurations in 2D and 3D results show examples of application. The results show that the developed method allows to predict the interaction between melt and solidified domains and the crystallinity in the solid.

Rail transport is a crucial means of mobility in transport and environmental policy: the shift from road to rail goes hand in hand with a reduction in CO2, fine dust and nitrogen emissions, congestion avoidance, less land consumption and positive effects for logistics and the economy. Local public transport (SPNV) and long-distance public transport (SPFV) are regarded as high-quality, high-performance connections both between regions and for international development. In view of the increasing use of the railways, they offer the opportunity to tap new potential in rail transport and thus new target groups. Both the federal and state governments have mentioned the great importance of rail connections in their coalition agreements. Not only in the Baden-Wuerttemberg discourse is a good connection to Switzerland called for as an important building block for the future orientation of the rail transport infrastructure, but the federal governments of Switzerland and Germany have also committed themselves to this through the Treaty of Lugano. The former Swiss Transport Minister, Adolf Ogi, called the Lugano agreement "a mission for Switzerland". The Triconch House is a large, late antique peristyle house in Aphrodisias in southwestern Asia Minor. Previously known as the Bishop’s Palace, it is one of the best preserved late antique houses in the Greek East and one of several in the Roman empire with a triple-apsed, or triconch, dining room. Its decorative program included large-scale figural wall paintings, a display of sculpture, and polychrome mosaic floors. The late antique house represents, however, only one phase in a much longer continuum of occupation of its site, which was roughly the size of a city block and located at the heart of the monumental urban center. This study is concerned both with the history and development of the urban location of the Triconch House and with the details of the late antique building. It traces the development of a plot of land measuring roughly 50m by 50 m over the course of some 1200 years, from at least the first century BC through the twelfth century AD. This study examines the house within its immediate surroundings in the northern part of the city center and considers these within the larger context of the urban development of Aphrodisias. At every stage of its history, the site of the Triconch House was intimately linked with the structures and institutions that surrounded it, and its evolution follows the major phases of the history of Aphrodisias. Structures were first built there during the city’s emergence as a planned town in the late Hellenistic period and they continued to be used throughout the imperial period. In late antiquity, when the city was a provincial capital, those structures were transformed into a large and well-appointed townhouse in the center of town. Finally, beginning sometime after the mid-seventh century AD, the Triconch House became a bishop’s residence and remained a component of a larger ecclesiastical complex through the middle Byzantine period, when Aphrodisias was a metropolitan see and pilgrimage site. This study will be of interest to archaeologists and other scholars interested in domestic architecture and urbanism in the Roman provinces, especially in late antiquity and the post-antique/Byzantine phases of Greco-Roman cities. The Triconch House is a large, late antique peristyle house in Aphrodisias in southwestern Asia Minor. Previously known as the Bishop’s Palace, it is one of the best preserved late antique houses in the Greek East and one of several in the Roman empire with a triple-apsed, or triconch, dining room. Its decorative program included large-scale figural wall paintings, a display of sculpture, and polychrome mosaic floors. The late antique house represents, however, only one phase in a much longer continuum of occupation of its site, which was roughly the size of a city block and located at the heart of the monumental urban center. This study is concerned both with the history and development of the urban location of the Triconch House and with the details of the late antique building. It traces the development of a plot of land measuring roughly 50m by 50 m over the course of some 1200 years, from at least the first century BC through the twelfth century AD. This study examines the house within its immediate surroundings in the northern part of the city center and considers these within the larger context of the urban development of Aphrodisias. At every stage of its history, the site of the Triconch House was intimately linked with the structures and institutions that surrounded it, and its evolution follows the major phases of the history of Aphrodisias. Structures were first built there during the city’s emergence as a planned town in the late Hellenistic period and they continued to be used throughout the imperial period. In late antiquity, when the city was a provincial capital, those structures were transformed into a large and well-appointed townhouse in the center of town. Finally, beginning sometime after the mid-seventh century AD, the Triconch House became a bishop’s residence and remained a component of a larger ecclesiastical complex through the middle Byzantine period, when Aphrodisias was a metropolitan see and pilgrimage site. This study will be of interest to archaeologists and other scholars interested in domestic architecture and urbanism in the Roman provinces, especially in late antiquity and the post-antique/Byzantine phases of Greco-Roman cities. It may also appeal to archaeologists using legacy data and Bauforschung/building archaeology approaches to ancient structures.

Basic questions about how and why we get around will determine whether we achieve climate neutrality and how best to incorporate it into a society where route acceleration is a policy requirement to be considered. Rail transport is a crucial means of mobility in transport and environmental policy: the shift from road to rail goes hand in hand with a reduction in CO2, fine dust and nitrogen emissions, congestion avoidance, less land consumption and positive effects for logistics and the economy. Local public transport (SPNV) and long-distance public transport (SPFV) are regarded as high-quality, high-performance connections both between regions and for international development. In view of the increasing use of the railways, they offer the opportunity to tap new potential in rail transport and thus new target groups. Both the federal and state governments have mentioned the great importance of rail connections in their coalition agreements. Not only in the Baden-Wuerttemberg discourse is a good connection to Switzerland called for as an important building block for the future orientation of the rail transport infrastructure, but the federal governments of Switzerland and Germany have also committed themselves to this through the Treaty of Lugano. The former Swiss Transport Minister, Adolf Ogi, called the Lugano agreement "a mission for Switzerland". With the expiry of the agreement in 2021, he did not hold back in criticising Germany: "Unfortunately, our neighbour to the north has not kept to the agreement". Winfried Hermann, the transport minister of Baden-Württemberg, also shares this criticism: "We have not come close to delivering". For this reason, a potential analysis is to be prepared within the scope of this work, which will in particular reveal the current situation of the railway infrastructure between Baden-Württemberg and Switzerland. Using various criteria, an attempt is made to analyse which expansion variants could offer the greatest potential for a shift from road to rail. The study thus claims to follow up on the basic idea of the Treaty of Lugano and aims to identify possibilities for improved rail transport. In this study, the core data of the BVWP will be presented, which deal in particular with the SPFV and SGV. A potential analysis of the SPNV requires further transport engineering references, which is not part of this paper.
