Das Besondere an diesem Wein Aus dem exzellenten Jahr 2016 stammt dieser Château Margaux, der nicht weniger als 99 Parker-Punkte erhielt. Der nasse und milde Winter in diesem Jahr führte zu einem recht frühen Austrieb in der letzten Märzwoche. 400 Millimeter Niederschlag in den ersten drei Monaten des Jahres trugen maßgeblich zur Erholung des Grundwasserspiegels nach einem eher trockenen Jahr 2015 bei. Die Reben nutzten zwischen dem 6. und 8. Juni einige seltene und schöne Sonnentage, um zu blühen. Im Juli und August fielen dann nur etwa acht Millimeter Niederschlag. Es war trocken, aber nicht besonders heiß. Der September war geprägt von trockenen Tagen und kühlen Nächten – optimal für die Trauben, um ihre Reifung abzuschließen. Trotz der teilweise extremen Trockenheit hat dieser Wein sein Säurepotenzial bewahrt – gute Voraussetzungen für ein fabelhaftes Alterungspotential. Die Ernte fand vom 23. September bis zum 18. Oktober statt – die längste Ernte in der Geschichte des Château Margaux. Unglaubliche 94 % der Assemblage bestehen aus Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot, Cabernet Franc und Petit Verdot verleihen dem Wein Volumen und Dichte. Die Weine wurden vollständig entrappt, die Fermentation erfolgte spontan in großen Holzfudern und der abschließende Ausbau zu 100 % in Barriques aus neuem Eichenholz. Dabei gingen nur 28 % der Ernte in den ersten Wein. Der Château Margaux 2016 fügt sich exzellent in die Reihe der großen Jahrgänge des beginnenden Jahrhunderts! Margaux ist als einzige Appellation im Bordeaux nach einem Château benannt. Sie liegt auf der Halbinsel Médoc auf der linken Seite der Gironde und gilt als eines der herausragendsten Weinanbaugebiete der Welt. Hier stehen 1.100 Hektar Fläche unter Reben, davon sind 60 % mit Cabernet Sauvignon bepflanzt. Die Kiesschichten sind hier weniger mächtig als in den benachbarten Appellationen, deshalb erreichen die Wurzeln der Reben den darunter liegenden Kalk etwas besser – möglicherweise einer der Gründe für die Erlesenheit der Weine aus Margaux. Hier befinden sich immerhin ein Drittel aller 1855 als Grand Cru Classé zertifizierten Weingüter. Das ist mehr als in jeder anderen Appellation. Die Weine aus Margaux werden häufig als samtig beschrieben, als fein, duftig und höchst elegant. Die Weine des Château Margaux gelten seit Jahrhunderten als Crème de la Crème des Bordeaux. Thomas Jefferson empfahl, sie vier Jahre zu lagern, damit sie Trinkreife erlangen. Heute dürfte diese Empfehlung noch deutlich höher ausfallen. Mit der Französischen Revolution wurde das Château Margaux zunächst enteignet. Später erlebte es eine Vielzahl von Besitzern, bevor es 1977 der aus Griechenland stammende Unternehmer André Mentzelopoulos erwarb. Nach seinem frühen Tod führt es bis heute seine Tochter Corinne. Fast 100 Hektar Anbaufläche sind mit 75 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 % Merlot und kleineren Mengen Cabernet Franc und Petit Verdot bestockt. Aber diese Zahlen können kaum das Renommee der Weine des Château Margaux ausdrücken. Sie zählen zu den begehrtesten Weinen der Welt. Wie der Wein schmeckt: charakterstark & kräftig Viel Kirsche, frische Zwetschge, weißer Pfeffer, Lakritze – ein dichtes Gewebe von Aromen und deren Nuancen, alles in der Schwebe. Die Tannine sind extrem klar definiert, einfach geschliffen und dabei von großer Frische und Mineralität. Der Abgang zieht sich über Minuten hin. Das ist ein Wein für die Geschichtsbücher, der jetzt schon unglaublich gut trinkbar ist, aber noch Jahrzehnte reifen darf.
