2024 LOCUS AWARD FINALIST, BEST FANTASY NOVEL WINNER OF THE 2022 BRITISH SCIENCE FICTION ASSOCIATION AWARD FOR BEST NOVEL 'Endlessly creative... so much invention peeking around every corner' Patrick Ness Arthur C. Clarke winner and Sunday Times bestseller Adrian Tchaikovsky's triumphant return to fantasy with a darkly inventive portrait of a city under occupation and on the verge of revolution. There has always been a darkness to Ilmar, but never more so than now. The city chafes under the heavy hand of the Palleseen occupation, the choke-hold of its criminal underworld, the boot of its factory owners, the weight of its wretched poor and the burden of its ancient curse. What will be the spark that lights the conflagration? Despite the city's refugees, wanderers, murderers, madmen, fanatics and thieves, the catalyst, as always, will be the Anchorwood - that dark grove of trees, that primeval remnant, that portal, when the moon is full, to strange and distant shores. Ilmar, some say, is the worst place in the world and the gateway to a thousand worse places. Ilmar, City of Long Shadows. City of Bad Decisions. City of Last Chances. 'Ilmar is vividly alive with ideas, conflicts, and a sense of its own history - a truly breathtaking fantasy city, down every street a compelling story.' David Towsey 'A master at the height of his powers. This is epic symphonic fantasy, weaving a breakneck plot through a sumptuously dangerous world.' Ian Green 'A wonderful twisty stew of a book with a cast of fascinating characters, set against the brilliantly realized city of Ilmar.' Sonicbond Publishing Tears for Fears on track A1069911650
Even after 40 years, critics of Tears For Fears have tended to describe them as an 80s band. This is understandable when songs like 'Mad World' appear in films that typify that period and 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' has had a prolonged life as one of the most played songs on streaming services. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith quickly transformed from their first band, mod revivalists Graduate, to introspective studio obsessives with The Hurting, to global hitmakers on Songs from the Big Chair, before releasing The Seeds of Love - epic both in terms of vision and cost. Musical differences and strained relations led to the dissolution of the original partnership at the end of that decade, while Orzabal carried on under the Tears for Fears banner into the 1990s. Everybody loves a happy ending, and in 2004 the reformed duo released that jocularly titled album. Then followed a long wait for a new record, a period occasionally punctuated by extensive touring around the world. The patience of their loyal followers was rewarded in 2022 with the universally lauded The Tipping Point. Taking in Graduate and the duo's solo work, this book covers the band's complete career, album by album and song by song. Paul Clark is a writer, freelance journalist, musician, and lecturer. He has previously worked as both a sports and music journalist. For over 18 years, he has lectured in news, sports, and music journalism. He is an avid gig-goer and record collector and can often be found crate digging in the region's record stores. Born in Liverpool, he now lives in St Helens, UK.

Pan MacMillan Eyes of the Void A1064062325
What waits in the shadows as we fight our greatest foe? Eyes of the Void is the second high-octane instalment in Adrian Tchaikovsky's Final Architecture space opera trilogy. From the author of the thrilling science-fiction epic Children of Time, which won the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award. After one great battle, the Architects disappeared. Yet humanity's fragile peace is brief. For, forty years later, the galaxy's greatest alien enemy has returned. This time, the artefacts that preserved entire worlds from destruction are ineffective. And no planet is safe. The Human Colony worlds are in turmoil as they face extinction. Some believe alliances with other species can save them. Others insist humanity must fight alone. But no one has the firepower or technology to ensure victory, as the Architects loom ever closer. Idris spent decades running from the last war's horrors. Yet as an Intermediary, altered to navigate deep space, he's one of humanity's only weapons. He's therefore forced back into action. With a handful of allies, Idris must find something - anything - to stop the Architects' pitiless advance. But to do so, he must return to the nightmare of unspace, where his mind was broken and remade. What he discovers there will change everything. 'One of the most interesting and accomplished writers in speculative fiction' - Christopher Paolini, author of Fractal Noise Readers love Eyes of the Void: 'The writing is pacy, the science superb, and the characters complex and hugely engaging' 'A rollercoaster, couldn't put it down' 'He captures the intricacy and scale of a fully formed universe with style and pace'

Hardigan Les Yeux A1074076140
