The History Press, Sachbücher, Brooklyn Heights: The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of America's First Suburb (Deutsch, Englisch, Brian Merlis, Robert Furman, 2015)
"Brooklyn Heights: The Rise, Fall and Rebirth of America's First Suburb" bietet einen umfassenden Einblick in die Geschichte eines der ältesten und historisch bedeutendsten Stadtteile New Yorks.

Brill | Fink Natures mortes

KNV Besorgung A Proper Drink A1039710647
A narrative history of the craft cocktail renaissance, written by a New York Times cocktail writer and one of the foremost experts on the subject. A Proper Drink is the first-ever book to tell the full, unflinching story of the contemporary craft cocktail revival. Award-winning writer Robert Simonson interviewed more than 200 key players from around the world, and the result is a rollicking (if slightly tipsy) story of the characters—bars; bartenders, patrons, and visionaries—who in the last 25 years have changed the course of modern drink-making. The book also features a curated list of about 40 cocktails—25 modern classics, plus an additional 15 to 20 rediscovered classics and classic contenders—to emerge from the movement.

GD Publishing Einige Geschichten vom Blues A1068988656
Anfahrt 2. Charlie Patton 3. Son House 4. Robert Johnson 5. Tommy Johnson 6. Bukka White 7. Muddy Waters

Ingram Publishers Services Three Days of Rain A1005097491
Set in New York, Three Days of Rain centers on a brother Walker, his sister Nan, and their childhood friend Pip who meet to settle their parents' estate. The two fathers were long-time friends and partners in architecture; their legacy is the brilliantly daring creation, the 1960's Janeway House. In this tense and brittle reunion, much more is at stake than who gets the house. Brother and sister discover their father's sparse diary, and use it to create a story for themselves that will explain away the present and make sense of their parent's passionless marriage. Over the three days of rain entered in the young architect's diary, the same three actors then play their own parents and reveal a romantic significance and creative dilemma that none of these children could ever have imagined. Julia Roberts will make her Broadway debut in spring 2006 as Nan in a revival of Richard Greenberg's Three Days of Rain.

Good Press Tekla A1067872610
Good Press Tekla A1067872610
Tekla: A Romance of Love and War is Robert Barr's vigorous excursion into the medieval historical romance, setting private passion against the clangor of feudal conflict. Moving through a world of castles, contested loyalties, martial stratagems, and courtly codes, the novel combines adventure narrative with a keen sense of social theater. Its style is brisk, ironic, and dramatically staged, reflecting the late-Victorian revival of medieval romance associated with Scott's legacy, Dumas's swiftness, and the popular taste for chivalric spectacle. Barr himself was well equipped to write such a tale. Born in Scotland, raised in Canada, and later prominent in London literary journalism, he brought a transatlantic alertness to institutions, ambition, and performance. His years as a journalist and magazine editor sharpened his pacing, dialogue, and eye for public conflict, while his fiction often tests romantic ideals against political calculation and worldly wit. This book is recommended to readers who enjoy historical romance with intelligence as well as movement. Tekla offers swordplay, intrigue, and sentiment, but also a shrewd Victorian meditation on power, honor, and desire.

Good Press Captain Ravenshaw; Or, The Maid of Cheapside. A Romance of Elizabethan London A1067872057
Good Press Captain Ravenshaw; Or, The Maid of Cheapside. A Romance of Elizabethan London A1067872057
Captain Ravenshaw; Or, The Maid of Cheapside is a vigorous historical romance that plunges readers into the clamorous streets, taverns, playhouses, and courtly shadows of Elizabethan London. Stephens marries swashbuckling action to urban comedy, letting questions of loyalty, disguise, love, and social ambition unfold amid the mercantile bustle of Cheapside and the era's volatile politics. Its prose is deliberately theatrical-brisk in dialogue, colorful in costume and setting, and indebted to the tradition of Scott, Dumas, and the popular fin-de-siècle revival of Tudor adventure. Robert Neilson Stephens, an American journalist, playwright, and novelist of the late nineteenth century, brought to such fiction both a reporter's eye for incident and a dramatist's instinct for scene. His career in periodical writing and the theatre helped shape his taste for rapid plotting, vivid entrances, and historically suggestive dialogue. Like many transatlantic writers of his generation, he treated the English past as a stage on which romance could illuminate character and public life. Readers who enjoy historical fiction with movement, atmosphere, and old-fashioned gallantry will find this novel rewarding. It is recommended as intelligent entertainment, capturing the glamour of Elizabethan London while preserving plot, wit, danger, and courtship.

Bloomsbury George Peppard A1079553572
Bloomsbury George Peppard A1079553572
A fascinating retrospective on the life and career of one of Hollywood's most enigmatic actors, George Peppard. In George Peppard: A Life, Jerry Roberts offers the definitive biography of one of Hollywood's most intriguing yet forgotten players, an A-list star known for his decades-spanning performances in essential films such as Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), How the West Was Won (1963), and The Carpetbaggers (1964), as well as his career revival in the television show The A-Team (1983-87). The actor was press-shy, tough to pin down. Roberts explores Peppard's history candidly, as someone known for his loyalty and work ethic, as a ladies' man and prodigious drinker, and as a loner who didn't fit anyone's idea of a Hollywood joiner or glad-hander, who kept his family out of the limelight.Peppard was famously difficult to work with, distrusting producers, rewriting scripts, and offering unsolicited advice to directors. His leading ladies shared unfavorable opinions of him, and yet one of them married him—twice. In fact, Peppard married five times, and the alimony payments and other debts, plus increased drinking, sent him to rock-bottom in 1978, from where he believed dinner theatre might be his final chapter.Featuring exclusive interviews and filled with behind-the-scenes stories including contretemps on Breakfast at Tiffany's; when the director of How the West Was Won was nearly fired and the final train shoot-out abandoned until Peppard threatened to walk off the picture; and a virtually unknown episode where actors were almost killed in a train accident and Peppard's stunt double lost a leg and an eye, cinephiles and fans are sure to be entertained and to learn something new about a classic, iconic Hollywood great.

An epicurean mystery featuring the iconic sleuth and his sidekick from the author who "brings Nero Wolfe, late of Rex Stout, gloriously back to life" ( Chicago magazine). A dark cloud has fallen over Nero Wolfe's New York brownstone. For days, house chef Fritz Brenner has worn a worried expression, caused by the news from back home in Switzerland that his beloved cousin is missing. When a hired detective on the ground is unable to turn up any leads, Fritz takes it upon himself to return to Geneva and launch his own investigation. However, when Fritz himself goes missing, it's up to Wolfe and his faithful assistant Archie Goodwin to travel to Geneva and save the day. Despite the disruptions of international travel, which are particularly intense for an enormous private detective who rarely, if ever, leaves his 59th Street home, the trip goes relatively smoothly-that is, until they reach their destination and Archie's puzzling inquest begins. He soon uncovers a tangled case that straddles the French-Swiss border in the shadow of Mont Blanc, and an underground network that will stop at nothing-not even murder-to preserve its secrets. Praise for Robert Goldsborough's Nero Wolfe Mysteries "Goldsborough has all of the late writer's stylistic mannerisms down pat." - The New York Times "Fans of that fat genius, Nero Wolfe, and his indomitable sidekick, Archie Goodwin, will be gratified by this stylish revival." - Publishers Weekly "Goldsborough does a masterly job with the Wolfe legacy." - Booklist

Ibidem Theoretical and Comparative Perspectives on Nationalism A1001029421
Ibidem Theoretical and Comparative Perspectives on Nationalism A1001029421
This volume brings together 15 articles divided into four sections on theoretical and comparative studies, the role of nationalism in transitions to democracy, the application of theory to case studies, and the role played by history and myths in the forging of national identities and nationalisms. The book develops new theories and frameworks through engaging with leading scholars of nationalism: Hans Kohn’s propositions are discussed in relation to an applicability of the term ‘civic’ (with no ethno-cultural connotations) to liberal democracies, Rogers Brubaker over the usefulness of dividing European states into ‘civic’ and ‘nationalising’ states when the former have historically been ‘nationalisers’; Will Kymlicka on the applicability of multiculturalism to post-communist states, and Paul Robert Magocsi on the lack of surveys and census data to support claims of revivals by national minorities in Ukraine. The book also engages with ‘transitology’ over the usefulness of comparative studies of transitions in regions that underwent only political reforms, and those that had ‘quadruple transitions’ implying simultaneous democratic and market reforms, as well as state and nation building. A comparative study of Serbian and Russian diasporas focuses on why ethnic Serbs and Russians living outside Serbia and Russia reacted differently to the disintegration of Yugoslavia and the USSR. The book takes to task experts of Russian and Soviet history who continue to utilize imperial frameworks of history, analyzes the re-writing of Ukrainian history within post-colonial theories, and discusses the forging of Ukraine’s identity within theories of ‘Others’ as central to the shaping of identities. Finally, it offers a new framework of study of Ukrainian ethnic relations designed to be an alternative to the continued use of ‘nationalism’ in a Soviet manner in which nationalism in Ukraine is solely defined as a West Ukrainian phenomenon.

From history to prophecy, from apologetics to politics, numbers are everywhere but not clearly understood. Steve Cioccolanti has expanded this study of the meaning of numbers to include Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, Benjamin Netanyahu, Kim Clement, Osama bin Laden, the Third Temple, the 7 Noahide Laws, World War III, and much more. That is why it is 'A Prophetic Encyclopedia of Numbers.''The Divine Code' is a carefully researched exploration into the meaning of numbers, codes, cycles and patterns found in Scripture, nature, history, and prophecy. Years of research and revelation have crafted this spiritual magnum opus that you will find an easy read and a joy to keep. Thought-provoking and highly practical, 'The Divine Code' is brimming with lively topics such as God, angels, demons, healing, dreams, different personalities, and end time prophecy. Volume II contains the number range 26 to 1000. "The Divine Code...is an excellent reference book that is extremely informative, inspirational and practical in every way...This excellent book has reconciled the extremes in doctrines and practices we see all around us, and brings forth the proper balanced Biblical perspective." --PASTOR DENNIS BALCOMBE, Founder of Revival Chinese Ministries International, Missionary to Hong Kong since 1969"Bible Numerics is a subject that will never be exhausted. The Divine Code by Steve Cioccolanti certainly adds to this amazing and fascinating subject." --KEVIN CONNER, Internationally-Recognized Theologian and Author"There is NO OTHER BOOK like 'The Divine Code'...Pastor Cioccolanti is the first pastor I know to highlight God's glory in the Bible through numbers in an entertaining way. I don't think Christians appreciate the importance of numbers. They are afraid that they may be dabbling in Kabbalah or the occult, so this book is ground-breaking in educating people that God created numbers to glorify Him."--LORILYN ROBERTS, Award-Winning Christian Author
