Thingstätten wurden 1933 bis 1936 als propagandistische Freilichtbühnen und Versammlungsplätze des Nationalsozialismus erbaut. 400 waren geplant, etwa 60 wurden errichtet, viele davon sind heute noch in Deutschland, Polen und Russland auffindbar. Dieses Buch vereint die Arbeiten von 23 internationalen KünstlerInnen und WissenschaftlerInnen die sich auf Spurensuche begeben haben zu diesen bis heute wenig bekannten geschichtlichen Orten. Kunst und Dokumentation, Text und Bild ermöglichen eine interdisziplinäre und pluralistische Auseinandersetzung mit der Bedeutung der Vergangenheit für die Gegenwart. Das in diesem Buch dokumentierte Projekt wurde 2021 beim European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award in der Kategorie „Research“ mit einer Anerkennung ausgezeichnet. Aus dem Jurytext „The Jury recognised the originality of the theme of this project and the balance that was struck between aesthetics and reflection. The Jury appreciated that the project shows how to approach this diffcult heritage with a contemporary art project.“ Das interdisziplinäre Kunstprojekt „Thingstätten“ entwickelte sich ab 2012 aus einer Reihe von Fragestellungen zur zeitgenössischen Kunst. Eine zweite Frage ergab sich aus der Bedeutung nationaler Identitäten, und, für mich, spezifisch der Deutschen. Für die meisten der nationalen und internationalen KünstlerInnen war das Thema der „ Thingstätten“ vollkommen neu. Sie gestalteten Arbeiten spezifisch zu dem vorliegenden Projekt, viele vor Ort an den insgesamt 45 im Buch vorliegenden Thingstätten. Die Motivation zur Beteiligung an dieser in Alter, Nationalität und Gender diversen Gruppe war dabei ganz unterschiedlich. Einige Konzepte sind biografisch geprägt, andere beruhen auf einer Freude daran, Unbekanntes zu entdecken. Alle beziehen sich jedoch, auf unterschiedliche Weise, auf die eindringliche Formsprache der Thingstätten und unseren heutigen Umgang damit. Die entstandenen Projekte sind entweder dem Bereich „ künstlerischer Dokumentarfotografie“ oder „freier Kunst“ zugeordnet. Die Dokumentarfotografie (weiße Seiten) bildet den Ort verbindlich ab, bei einer möglichst großen gestalterischen Eigenständigkeit. Sie fügt keine inszenierten Inhalte hinzu, sondern bezieht sich auf die realen Gegebenheiten vor Ort. Die Kunstprojekte (graue Seiten) aus dem Bereich Performance, Illustration und Installation sind freier im Grad der Inszenierung, Übertragung und Abstraktion. Alle Motive sind geografisch gruppiert und werden durch historisches Bildmaterial ergänzt.

Immer beginnend mit grundlegenden Formen wie Quadraten, Kreisen, Zylindern und Rechtecken verleiht sie ihnen Bewegung und ein Eigenleben, indem sie ihre Formen wiederholt, deren Tiefen oder Höhen variiert oder sie miteinander schneidet, um neue, elegante Kompositionen zu schaffen. Filwa Nazer (geb. 1972, Swansea, Vereinigtes Königreich) ist eine saudische Multimedia-Konzeptkünstlerin, die in Jeddah lebt und arbeitet. Ihre Praxis reicht von digitalen Drucken und fotografischen Collagen bis hin zu Textilien und Installationen und konzentriert sich darauf, emotionale und psychologische Identität im Verhältnis zu räumlichen und sozialen Kontexten zu hinterfragen. This compilation of short stories includes work written by students from different degree programmes at the University of Saint Joseph, Macao, China, in 2021. Students involved in this project include students from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities' Bachelor of Architectural Studies, Bachelor of Communication and Media, Bachelor of Design and Bachelor of Fashion Design. Dieses Buch vereint die Arbeiten von 23 internationalen KünstlerInnen und WissenschaftlerInnen die sich auf Spurensuche begeben haben zu diesen bis heute wenig bekannten geschichtlichen Orten. Kunst und Dokumentation, Text und Bild ermöglichen eine interdisziplinäre und pluralistische Auseinandersetzung mit der Bedeutung der Vergangenheit für die Gegenwart. Das in diesem Buch dokumentierte Projekt wurde 2021 beim European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award in der Kategorie „Research“ mit einer Anerkennung ausgezeichnet. Die Motivation zur Beteiligung an dieser in Alter, Nationalität und Gender diversen Gruppe war dabei ganz unterschiedlich. Einige Konzepte sind biografisch geprägt, andere beruhen auf einer Freude daran, Unbekanntes zu entdecken. Alle beziehen sich jedoch, auf unterschiedliche Weise, auf die eindringliche Formsprache der Thingstätten und unseren heutigen Umgang damit. Die entstandenen Projekte sind entweder dem Bereich „ künstlerischer Dokumentarfotografie“ oder „freier Kunst“ zugeordnet. Die Dokumentarfotografie (weiße Seiten) bildet den Ort verbindlich ab, bei einer möglichst großen gestalterischen Eigenständigkeit.
