HarperCollins Teach the Torches to Burn A1071558896
A young aspiring artist searches for true love amid a bloody, centuries-old feud in this fresh take on Shakespeare's most notorious classic, perfect for fans of Adam Silvera and The Song of Achilles. Verona, Italy. Seventeen-year-old aspiring artist Romeo dreams of a quiet life with someone who loves him just as he is. But as the heir to the Montague family, he is expected to give up his "womanly" artistic pursuits and uphold the family honor-particularly in their centuries-old blood feud with a rival family, the Capulets. Worse still, he is also expected to marry a well-bred girl approved by his parents and produce heirs. But the more Romeo is forced to mingle with eligible maidens, the harder it is to keep his deepest secret: He only feels attracted to other boys. In an attempt to forget his troubles for just one night, Romeo joins his cousin in sneaking into a Capulet party. During a fateful encounter in the garden, he meets the kindest, most beautiful boy he's ever met, and is shocked to learn he's Valentine, the younger brother of one of his closest friends. He is even more shocked to discover that Valentine is just as enamored with Romeo as Romeo is with him. So begins a tender romance that the boys must hide from their families and friends, each of them longing for a world where they could be together without fear. And as the conflict between the Montagues and Capulets escalates out of control, Romeo and Valentine find themselves in danger of losing each other forever-if not by society's scorn, then by the edge of a blade. Queer star-crossed love amid a centuries-old feud takes center stage in this Romeo & Juliet remix that knows sometimes, the best way is to make it gay. (And spoiler alert: this take doesn't end in tragedy.) Vibrance Press Unveiled Secrets A1077612898
Kate is back with more weddings, more teenage angst from her daughter, Ellis, and another murder. Kate's good friend from high school, Charlie Wentworth, has asked her to plan his wedding to Remley, the fiancé no one in town knew about. It's no secret that Charlie has carried the torch for Kate for many years, making her role as wedding planner a bit awkward. But Charlie has been a great friend to Kate since she moved back home to New England; in fact, he even acted as her attorney when she was accused of murder two years ago. Kate's happy to share her own expertise, even if her fiancé, Remley, can be a little bit of a pill. She is unreasonable at best, but all heck really breaks loose when Charlie and Remley's photographer is shot through the heart with an arrow! Kate teams up again with her friend/enemy, Sarah, to solve the case. Despite their bickering and old grudge going back to their high school competition for Brian McAllister, they work surprisingly well together. Throw in a mob boss, complications with Kate's love interest, Brian, quirky townsfolk, and the little village of Eastbury may never be the same.

Pen & Sword Books Ltd The German 10th Panzer Division and the Battles of Russia and North Africa A1077156920
A focused combat history traces a panzer division from Russia in 1941 to Tunisia and Kasserine Pass. Following on from the author's previous published account of the 10th Panzer Division, this unit history continues the study of its battles, now moving to Russia in 1941 and later, to North Africa. Having seen significant combat in first Poland and then France, the division was sent east once again, this time to participate in Operation Barbarossa. After its initial battles against the Red Army including the drive on Moscow in December of 1941 as part of the panzer force assigned to Army Group Center, the division was withdrawn from Russia and refitted in France during 1942. It was stationed near Dieppe when the ill-fated raid occurred in August 1942, though it had little direct involvement. Once rebuilt, instead of returning to the Eastern Front, at the end of November 1942 it was sent to Tunisia to oppose Operation Torch, the Allied landings in North Africa. Arriving piecemeal, it fought in Tunisia against both US and British armies until the German forces there surrendered in May 1943. For reasons never fully explained, the 10. Panzer-Division was not re-established, and so its impressive history ended prematurely, with its last battle of note taking place at Kasserine Pass. As with the companion volume, this account includes both command level descriptions of the movements and fighting of the division's panzers as well as personal small unit accounts.

Osprey Publishing Turning The Tide A1071990990
Bloomsbury presents Turning The Tide by Thomas McKelvey Cleaver, read by Christopher Ragland.Packed with personal accounts of the action, this is a vivid narrative history of the often-overlooked USAAF campaign in North Africa and Sicily in World War II.In 1942, the Western Allies needed to take the offensive against the Axis to relieve pressure on the Soviet Union. With planning for a cross-Channel invasion beset by logistical and operational difficulties, in May 1942 President Roosevelt ordered his military leaders to prepare to support the British in the Mediterranean. This led to the first USAAF units arriving in the Middle East in July, firstly as reinforcements for the British and later as part of the Operation Torch landings in French Morocco and Algeria in November. In little over ten months from the summer of 1942, the USAAF in North Africa grew from nothing to a senior partner, providing aircraft and crews the other Allies were unable to match. The Axis forces that had controlled almost the entire southern shore of the Mediterranean had been swept from the African continent – thanks in no small part to the efforts of the USAAF.Using first-hand accounts from pilots and other aircrew, Tom Cleaver describes how the USAAF units that landed in Morocco were forced to learn their own lessons in combat with veteran Luftwaffe units, and how the experience gained in the skies over North Africa and Sicily was invaluable in developing the air forces that would dominate the skies over Europe in the latter years of the war.

Vibrance Press When the Elephants Dance A1068728012
"Papa explains the war like this: 'When the elephants dance, the chickens must be careful.' The great beasts, as they circle one another, shaking the trees and trumpeting loudly, are the Amerikanos and the Japanese as they fight. And our Philippine Islands? We are the small chickens." Once in a great while comes a storyteller who can illuminate worlds large and small, magical and true to life. When the Elephants Dance introduces us to the incandescent voice of Tess Uriza Holthe, who sets her remarkable first novel in the waning days of World War II, as the Japanese and the Americans engage in a fierce battle for possession of the Philippine Islands. The Karangalan family and their neighbors huddle for survival in the cellar of a house a few miles from Manila. Outside the safety of their little refuge the war rages on-fiery bombs torch the beautiful Filipino countryside, Japanese soldiers round up and interrogate innocent people, and from the hills guerillas wage a desperate campaign against the enemy. Inside the cellar, these men, women, and children put their hopes and dreams on hold as they wait out the war, only emerging to look for food, water, and medicine. Through the eyes of three narrators, thirteen-year-old Alejandro Karangalan, his spirited older sister Isabelle, and Domingo, a passionate guerilla commander, we see how ordinary people must learn to live in the midst of extraordinary uncertainty, how they must find hope for survival where none seems to exist. They find this hope in the dramatic history of the Philippine Islands and the passion and bravery of its people. Crowded together in the cellar, the Karangalans and their friends and neighbors tell magical stories to one another based on Filipino myth and legend to fuel their courage, pass the time, and teach important lessons. The group is held spellbound by these stories, which feature a dazzling array of ghosts, witches, supernatural creatures, and courageous Filipinos who changed the course of history with their actions. These profoundly moving stories transport the listeners from the chaos of the war around them and give them new resolve to fight on. With When the Elephants Dance Holthe has not only written a gripping narrative of how Alejandro, Isabelle, Domingo and their community fight for survival, but a loving tribute to the magical realism that infuses Filipino culture. The stories shared by her characters are based on the same tales handed down to Holthe from her Filipino father and lola, her grandmother. This stunning debut novel is the first to celebrate in such richness and depth the spirit of the Filipino people and their fascinating story and marks the introduction of a talented new author who will join the ranks of writers such as Arundhati Roy, Manil Suri, and Amy Tan.

HarperCollins Into the Bright Open A1070539779
A Governor General's Literary Award in Young People's Literature Finalist "Aching and emotionally immersive. ... A rich and verdant revival of a classic." -Kirkus Reviews, starred review A newly orphaned girl is sent to the Canadian wilderness to live with relatives she's never met, only to discover her new home is full of secrets both wonderful and horrifying in this lyrical retelling of The Secret Garden. Mary Lennox didn't think about death until the day it knocked politely on her bedroom door and invited itself in. When a terrible accident leaves her orphaned at fifteen, she is sent to the wilderness of the Georgian Bay to live with an uncle she's never met. At first the impassive, calculating girl believes this new manor will be just like the one she left in Toronto: cold, isolating, and anything but cheerful, where staff is treated as staff and never like family. But as she slowly allows her heart to open like the first blooms of spring, Mary comes to find that this strange place and its strange people-most of whom are Indigenous-may be what she can finally call home. Then one night Mary discovers Olive, her cousin who has been hidden away in an attic room for years due to a "nervous condition." The girls become fast friends, and Mary wonders why this big-hearted girl is being kept out of sight and fed medicine that only makes her feel sicker. When Olive's domineering stepmother returns to the manor, it soon becomes clear that something sinister is going on. With the help of a charming, intoxicatingly vivacious Metis girl named Sophie, Mary begins digging further into family secrets both wonderful and horrifying to figure out how to free Olive. And some of the answers may lie within the walls of a hidden, overgrown and long-forgotten garden the girls stumble upon while wandering the wilds... This queer YA reimagining of The Secret Garden subverts the cishet and white status quo of the original. The Remixed Classics Series In the Remixed Classics series, authors from marginalized backgrounds reinterpret classic works through their own cultural lens to subvert the overwhelmingly cishet, white, and male canon. Feiwel & Friends My Dear Henry: A Jekyll & Hyde Remix A1063204820
A young man searches for the reason behind his best friend's disappearance and the arrival of a magnetic stranger in this haunting retelling of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, perfect for fans of Tiffany D. Jackson and Mexican Gothic. "Addressing invisibility, power, and passion, Bayron's updated classic simmers with Gothic imagery, romance, and a robust exploration of what it means to be whole. A vibrant retelling." -Kirkus Reviews London, 1885. Gabriel Utterson, a 17-year-old law clerk, has returned to London for the first time since his life- and that of his dearest friend, Henry Jekyll-was derailed by a scandal that led to his and Henry's expulsion from the London Medical School. Whispers about the true nature of Gabriel and Henry's relationship have followed the boys for two years, and now Gabriel has a chance to start again. But Gabriel doesn't want to move on, not without Henry. His friend has become distant and cold since the disastrous events of the prior spring, and now his letters have stopped altogether. Desperate to discover what's become of him, Gabriel takes to watching the Jekyll house. In doing so, Gabriel meets Hyde, a a strangely familiar young man with white hair and a magnetic charisma. He claims to be friends with Henry, and Gabriel can't help but begin to grow jealous at their apparent closeness, especially as Henry continues to act like Gabriel means nothing to him. But the secret behind Henry's apathy is only the first part of a deeper mystery that has begun to coalesce. Monsters of all kinds prowl within the London fog-and not all of them are out for blood... This gothic YA remix of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde subverts the cishet white perspective of the original and openly explores the queer subtext that has been long debated-and often erased altogether. The Remixed Classics Series In the Remixed Classics series, authors from marginalized backgrounds reinterpret classic works through their own cultural lens to subvert the overwhelmingly cishet, white, and male canon. Feiwel & Friends Most Ardently: A Pride & Prejudice Remix A1068187997
A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A STONEWALL HONOR BOOK A trans boy searches for a future-and a romance-in which he can live and love openly as himself in this heartwrenching YA reimagining of Pride & Prejudice, perfect for fans of Bridgerton and Gwen and Art Are Not in Love. London, 1812 . Oliver Bennet feels trapped. Not just by the endless corsets, petticoats and skirts he's forced to wear on a daily basis, but also by society's expectations. The world-and the vast majority of his family and friends-think Oliver is a girl named Elizabeth. He is therefore expected to mingle at balls wearing a pretty dress, entertain suitors regardless of his interest in them, and ultimately become someone's wife. But Oliver can't bear the thought of such a fate. He finds solace in the few times he can sneak out of his family's home and explore the city rightfully dressed as a young gentleman. It's during one such excursion when Oliver becomes acquainted with Darcy, a sulky young man who had been rude to "Elizabeth" at a recent social function. But in the comfort of being out of the public eye, Oliver comes to find that Darcy is actually a sweet, intelligent boy with a warm heart. And not to mention incredibly attractive. As Oliver is able to spend more time as his true self, often with Darcy, part of him dares begin to hope that his dream of love and life as a man could be possible. But suitors are growing bolder-and even threatening-and his mother is growing more desperate to see him settled into an engagement. Oliver will have to choose: Settle for safety, security, and a life of pretending to be something he's not, or risk it all for a slim chance at freedom, love, and a life that can be truly, honestly his own. This bittersweet Pride & Prejudice remix follows a trans boy yearning for the freedom to live openly, centering queerness in a well-known story of longing and subverting society's patriarchal and cisheteronormative expectations. The Remixed Classics Series In the Remixed Classics series, authors from marginalized backgrounds reinterpret classic works through their own cultural lens to subvert the overwhelmingly cishet, white, and male canon.
